This is a food hack more than a recipe. The purpose of this “playing with your food” segment is to inspire you to grab that tub of Gochujang from the back of your fridge and make a culinary play date.

Did you forget about that bright red tub after you made Korean Ssamjang Sauce? Don’t let this delightful Korean chili paste go to waste. If you are stumped, find inspiration in this article What is Gochujang? Or cozy up to an Easy White Bean Soup, amped up with….Gochujang. You’re welcome.

How to Make This

Ingredients on counter.
Gather your ingredients. Today I am using boxed Mac & Cheese, but feel free to make this with your homemade version.
Gochujang sauce in red tub.
Grab that bright red tub from the back of your fridge. The heat level is usually noted on the front of the package. Look for the thermometer. How much to use? That depends on your heat preference and the heat level of the Gochujang. If you happen to have the hottest version, use one tablespoon. If you have any other version use 1-2 tablespoons, depending on your preference.
Gochujang sauce and melted butter in bowl.
Try to dissolve the chili paste in butter, milk or water. The paste is sticky. so have patience. Alternatively you can microwave the paste in a little water to loosen it up. You are doing this step to help it melt evenly when you add the rest of the ingredients.
Gochujang Macaroni ingredients in pot.
Cook your macaroni per the packaged directions. Add the Gochujang paste when you add the cheese packet. Mix aggressively.
Stirred macaroni.
You know you are done mixing when everything is well incorporated.

I garnished mine with Everything Bagel Sesame Blend and scallions. Now isn’t that pretty?
