Remoulade is a mayo-based sauce that is easily made by mixing just a few ingredients for an easy condiment that is more robust than plain mayo. You can thin it out with cream if you need a thinner consistency.

In addition to the ideas above, this spicy mayo sauce is great for open faced sandwiches known as Danish Smorrebrod or Salmon Croquettes.

There are many variations throughout Western Europe and the U.S. Although France is credited with the original, different cultures put their own spin on this classic condiment.

Louisiana style has an orange or reddish hue thanks to paprika and catsup. This version also may have scallions, celery, parsley and hard boiled eggs.

Danish Remoulade may have chopped cabbage, pickled cucumbers, sugar, coriander and turmeric.

So as you can see, there’s no wrong way to make a remoulade, let your hair down and experiment a little. If you invent your own spicy mayo sauce, leave a comment below and share what you did!
