Curious about what is in an Indian cook’s pantry? I made a free printable just for you. If you are just diving into Indian cooking, this Indian pantry list will be helpful to you. You probably already have some of these ingredients. Pro-tip, spices and sometimes vegetables, in an Indian market are much cheaper than at the supermarket.

I once knew a woman from India who was a fabulous cook.  She liked to take short cuts for everyday cooking.  The one short cut I can still remember was using wonton and egg roll wrappers for dumplings instead of making the dough.  She made some fantastic Indian Samosas using wonton wrappers and deep fried them.  As your teeth broke through the crunchy outside, your tastebuds were met with a mix of hearty meat and savory spices.  Sauces were served on the side for your dipping pleasure.

Today, I am sharing with you the samosa recipe as I remember it but baked instead of fried.  These were fun to make with my daughter who was home visiting from college.  She is the hand model in these pics.  She has the tiniest hands.

Whenever I want that quintessential Indian taste to a recipe, I reach for a spice blend called Panch Phoran.  It’s a pre-made mixture of common spices used in Indian food.  I can usually find this in an Indian store but if not, it’s available online. There’s a link to it in the recipe card.

I made veggie samosas using wonton wraps. I froze them. Do I Pam spray them and bake from frozen? Or Pam spray frozen and thaw? I thawed a few, oiled them after thawed and put in oven, wasn’t enjoyable as the wrap had dried out. I think I should have sprayed them and baked from frozen, not thaw. Or should I just shallow pan fry from frozen?

I would bake or shallow pan-fry frozen. I wouldn't thaw because of that very reason. I hope they were good:). One of my favorite samosas was a spicy potato wonton wrapper dumpling. How did you make your veggie samosa?

Samosa's are a great appetizer for dinner! I've always been a little intimidated by them, but using the won ton wrappers with such wonderful step-by-step pictures makes me want to put this on the menu this weekend with one of the wonderful dinners you suggested like Indian Butter Chicken!

What a great tip, I love making samosas but sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed by the whole dough making process. This makes it so much quicker, and I love that they are baked as well - so much better than deep-fried!

I like to take a break from deep fried whenever I can. Have fun with this one Donna!

This is such a great approach for those who aren't great with from-scratch doughs! I bet the crispiness goes so well with the soft interior. I'd eat the entire plate, easily ;)

Me too Dana! I would have to be careful not to eat the whole batch.

I've never tasted samosas but they look so tasty and lots of fun to make. I've been wanting to buy some won ton wrappers to make a few dishes and I think I'll start with these Indian samosas. BTW -- your daughter did an excellent job.
