What Is Greek Seasoning Blend Made Of?

Greek seasoning is a blend of herbs that grow well in the Mediterranean as well as some imported spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon.

All of the ingredients are easy to find in your local market so feel free to make a big batch and make your cooking that much easier.

SOME COMMON INGREDIENTS

  • basil
  • oregano
  • marjoram
  • parsley
  • rosemary
  • thyme
  • mint
  • garlic
  • onion
  • salt
  • pepper
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • cloves
Salt, pepper, rosemary and nutmeg.

How To Use This Seasoning

  • sprinkle on fish, chicken or pork before or after baking
  • add to a basic vinaigrette to add more flavor to your salads
  • sprinkle on a buttered baked potato
  • add to soups
  • add to egg or chicken salad
  • add to naan dough for even more flavor
  • add to a southern cornbread batter
  • add to an Irish traditional soda bread recipe to fuse Greek and Irish cuisine

Homemade Greek Seasoning Blend Recipe

A Greek seasoning blend that makes sheet pan dinners and one-pot meals easy peasy. This traditional, herb-heavy blend is perfect for weeknights when you want to press the easy-button. Just toss some veggies and bone-in chicken with some olive oil, sprinkle on the Greek Seasoning Blend and you have dinner in thirty minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 parts basil
  • 2 parts granulated garlic
  • 2 parts granulated onion
  • 2 parts oregano
  • 2 parts parsley
  • 2 parts rosemary
  • 1 part thyme
  • 4 parts salt
  • 2 parts ground black pepper
  • 2 parts cinnamon
  • 1 part ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Decide on how much spice blend you need. If you want about a cup, start with a tablespoon as your base measurement.
  2. Add the ingredients with the proportions indicated in the ingredient list to a jar with a tight lid. Mix or shake well. Store in a cool, dark place.

Notes

  • Make as much or as little as desired. This method is very flexible.
  • If you always like a little heat to your savory dishes, feel free to add red pepper flakes or a little cayenne, paprika or aleppo pepper.
