Mama! Thai Ramen Hack and Review

Soup, Ramen, Hack, Thai

There are a lot of ramen hackers out there, you know who you are, ahem, Miss B!

I am NOT a fan of the usual instant ramen bricks sold by the ton at the local supermarkets.  I don’t care for the taste and even the texture of the noodles seem off.  I know these products are loaded with sodium and MSG and unless it’s a really good product, it’s just not worth it to me.  Alone, it has little nutritional content so I don’t bother with them.  I am intrigued, however, by the ones offered in asian markets.  Some of them are quite good and if you hack them just a little, you can get some nutrition out of them which in my book makes it worth the sodium and MSG, at least on those days where you want a hot bowl but don’t have the time to cook up a full, real recipe.

I introduce you to Mama! I added the exclamation point for effect, the word ‘mama’ resonates the feelings of love and warmth, therefore deserves some exclamation love.

I bought this one on a whim at a big box store, I had never noticed it before.  I found it in a very small asian section in a very large aisle.  I will start looking for these small sections to see what they have to offer.  I would rather shop at an asian store for many reasons but my closest one is 10 miles away so……I frequently just work with what I have.  This little nugget was a nice little treasure.  I cooked it up according to package directions and used the three little packets inside.  Apparently this ramen is so popular it has it’s own Facebook page:)

soup, ramen, hack, thaiThe only ‘hack’ elements are beaten egg and sliced green onion.  Adding those two elements add nutritional value, color and all over ramen goodness.

I really liked this ramen for the taste of the broth and the texture of the noodles.  The seasoning was fully flavored with depth.  It also had an optional pepper powder which I used and don’t regret it.  I distinctly recall the taste of kefir lime leaves in this seasoning packet but it was not listed on the ingredient label.  A mystery for another time….
